After coming back from traveling through Europe & taking a whole semester off of Chiropractic school, I was looking for a place to live (last minute)! A mutual friend referred me to Julia who was renting out a room from her condo near our school. She was also a Chiropractic student at the time.
I didn't hesitate and neither did she! For all she knew, I could of been some psycho but she opened her home to me anyways (haha)!
Well turns out, we've been through very similar life experiences. We both love to cook. She actually inspired to explore healthy options. She had a knack for bringing random ingredients together to make an amazing culinary experience...especially her baked goods! :)
We've been through the good & REALLY bad relationships together...our burdens of our past have definitely seen similarities...and overall, we enjoy spending time together..dancing..cooking..doing random things to lift our spirits!
You can always count on Julia to be an uplifting spirit that will help you get through your day, vent about things from boys to classes, and go on random trips to Chicago.
After getting married, Julia even opened up her home to us while we were in a 1-2 month transition period from our apartment lease ending to moving into our new home!
Julia & I definitely came into each other's lives at the right time...helping each other through life transitions...as well as just being able to be there no matter what! And I got to meet her amazingly talented and beautiful little sister, Erinn who will definitely take over the world of art, fashion, and music one day! :) Click here to HEAR how amazing Erinn is! :)
Among all the exciting things we learned about each other from living together, we realized that we have the same LOVE for eggs prepared in any and every way. One day we even put eggs on pizza!
You might think we're weird. But I think it's absolutely genius. Well...that answers the question to my blog from yesterday.
What makes a burger soooo goooood?! an EGG!! :)
Spicy Turkey Burger w/ an Egg!
Prep time: 30 mins Total time: 45-50 mins
Serving: 4
Ingredients
1 lb Ground Turkey
2 jalapenos (chopped)
1 large white onion (chopped)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp chili powder/paprika
1 egg
1 tsp olive oil
2 tbsp of rice flour
1/4 stick of butter
2 tbsp GF Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
1 tbsp Black Soy Sauce
2-4 gluten free hamburger buns (recommends: Udi's brand)
Herb salad mixture
1 red/white onion sliced
2 roma tomato sliced
4 fried eggs :)
All the condiments you want!
Slice of cheese- I prefer pepperjack or provolone
3 cloves of minced garlic
1/4 stick of melted butter
Optional: My husband loves olives on his burger so you can always include that!
Instructions:
Instructions:
1) Combine all the ingredients together and make into large burger patties! Make a thumbprint dent right in the middle of the patty!
2) You can warm up the broiler or grill depending on what you prefer. Pan searing the burgers in a pan and then finishing them in the oven can work great too! Top each burger with a slice of butter when you flip it over. Cook each side for about 10-15 mins. If you use a broiler- oven should be about 425 degrees.
3) Mix the minced garlic with the butter and brush each bun with garlic butter and toast for 5 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees (or while the burgers are cooking in the broiler).
4) When the burgers are almost done, melt your cheese on each patty.
5) Fry each egg and prepare each bun with the condiments and ingredients.
6) Remove each patty from the broiler/grill and top each burger with an egg!
**If you don't want it to be spicy, you can take out the jalapenos! I like the extra POW you get! :)
We actually paired this with a small side salad and homemade potato chips! I thinly sliced red potatoes, brushed it with olive oil, and sprinkled sea salt on them and that's it!
Set them in a 350 degree oven for 20 mins and that's it!
Finished product:
Most of my cuisine in general is a fusion of asian with something else which is mostly what my palate craves. But sometimes, I just want a nice and juicy burger and this really hits the spot!
Like Julia has inspired me to do, go outside your comfort zone with ingredients and amp your cravings up with a fun, healthy, and yummy twist!
Doing back to back recipes this week- teaser for tomorrow:
